Sushi Love It or Hate It?
Recently I've found out I have a fond taste for sushi! Never thought to try it growing up because I grew up in the country. The joys of pond fishing in ponds shared by the family farm cows and any other animals we had that right there will make a kid associate fish with that murky gross smell with fish. If you know what I'm smelling then you would understand why I choose to always want my fish cooked....to possibly cook away that smell. Since moving to a state heavily stacked to the nines with seafood sushi tasting was just lurking in the shadows whispering TRRRYYYYY MEEEEEEE! So I did.
The first sushi roll I had came from the Chinese restaurant my wife works at the PCWD and Boston roll. At the time I had no idea what was in the two I just asked her what two of the more popular roll were and ordered them. Eating them was as fast as I ordered them I didn't think about it, didn't stare at it until the look of it changed my mind, and I certainly didn't think about the smell of that murky cow bathing pond from my childhood. Almost dropped the container it came in trying to rip the lid off just to try one before my courage faded away. One watching me would have thought that I loved the sushi and had been deprived of it for way to long and had become a ravaging animal ripping open its soon to be feast. Over the course of the next three or so months that is exactly what I became.
From that day on I was now on a mission to try all different combinations of sushi I could get my hands on! White fish and tuna inside avocado on the outside. Crab and avocado inside with spicy mayo on top. SIDE NOTE: Spicy mayo is a sauce simply put as a masterpiece thrown together and given to us from the food gods! If you are not allergic to eggs and can have mayo I suggest trying spicy mayo along with eel sauce. (father of a kid with allergies so I respect anyone who has allergy) Where was I? Oh yeah, pepper tuna avocado roll, smoked salmon and cream cheese, you name it I tried it. Lunch and dinner for me was sushi, my new found craving. Who else likes sushi? (give me give me) Who hates it? (just nuke the abomination)
What is your go to sushi roll? If I had to pick though the plethora of rolls I have to try just to narrow it down to possibly a favorite. I would have to say anything with tuna, salmon or avocado. Tuna is oh my gosh fantastic! I have been getting this roll lately and I'm pretty sure it is my favorite one based on the fact that I get it every time I get sushi...the Pepper Tuna Avocado Roll. All it is is tuna with a pepper crust seared with avocado and that is it! Something that simply can be so abundant, so flavorful, and just bring any food loving person to their knees to accept it as their superior.
I'm going to end it with a quote from a movie that I think is so perfect to just think about when you think about how sushi was possibly created for the first time. This quote comes from the movie "Click" just a classic movie if I don't say so....good storyline and all together just a phenomenal moral that you should use in your life. Anyways in the movie one of the character says they are dealing with Japanese so the project better be done on time because Japanese people are so impatient they can't even wait for their fish to cook. All I can say is if this is true than good things came of it. Thank you for coming along for my journey of eating sushi for the first time and would love to hear if anyone had similar experiences.
Next time I get sushi which probably won't be long...maybe tomorrow I will add a picture for this post.
